This Beautifully Hand carved German Black Forest Cuckoo clock was created sometime in the late 1800s or early 1900s and found at a recent private estate sale along with several other antique clocks. (Please view the pictures below). The clock's lovely case was deeply carved from a Darker Redish Brown wood and measures a very impressive 21 1/2" from top of bird to bottom of pendulum with a width of 13" at the widest point. The old German wood carver really show his artistic ability in depicting a old mountain Chalet complete with a pitch roof. Sitting on the very top of the Chalet is a large carved winged bird with a Red glass eye . He's perched on a Forest limb accented with Maple leaves. Below the bird and framing the front of the Chalet is more of the carved tree limbs, Maple leaves and two more birds with Red eyes. The upper peak of the front has a little wooden hinged door w the Cuckoo bird comes out of. The bird is also carved from wood and coo coos once on the half hour and as many times needed on the hour. T is also a chime that sound as the Cuckoo bird coo coos. The face of the clock is numbered in Roman numerals and the hands are very decorative and appear to be made of bone ?.
