Beautiful primitive American folk art rug--wool looped on burlap. Handmade. Yarn dyed with vegetable dye as per analysis by local antique rug expert. Age thought to be early 1900's. Purchased in the Georgetown area of Washington DC from a dealer. Rug is 42" long x 26" wide, has 1/2" binding. Shows surface soil---could use a good cleaning but soil does not detract from the wonderful images of Mother Goose and babe. Reverse side of rug shows vibrant reds, cool greens, blue, ivory and beige yarns. Defects and damage as shown in photo images: some wear on right side surface allows burlap to be visible; one pull of yarn with fray; one 2" area next to a 1" area on binding that has lost color due to ? bleach spill. Perfect for collector or child's theme room. Sold as is. Questions welcome.
