Vintage Pipe Tomahawk (Sioux/Cheyenne?) in Great Condition For bid is this really well done pipe tomahawk from my husband's collection. He has decided that this a piece he is now willing to part with. This piece is really lovely and if you look at the photos and love them, you will not be sorry if you win bid. It looks much better in person, especially the head detail. We bought this at a fine quality antique market in Illinois about 18 years ago and paid handsomely for it. The dealer we bought it from may not have known what it was as they had this marked as a beaded war club. I still have the sales tag. They told us it came from a Kansas City estate. My husband knew that it was not entirely original, but a reproduction perhaps re-hafted in the 1940's. Nonetheless it was well done and so we went ahead and purchased it. It hung on our wall for many years but has been tucked away for many more years, so out it goes. Now my husband works in an industry w he deals with fine museums (such as the Chicago Field Museum ) and he works with Native Americans. So he has gained knowledge, seen many original pieces and has decided this is an item he can part with. His description to me is that it is ornate brass, perhaps French Victorian in origin, with a steel blade which is rusted. The head looks old and has wonderful patina. It has been read more
