Vintage Pipe Tomahawk (Sioux/Cheyenne?) in Great Condition For bid is this really well done pipe tomahawk from my husband's collection. He has decided that this a piece he is now willing to part with. This piece is really lovely and if you look at the photos and love them, you will not be sorry if you win bid. It looks much better in person, especially the head detail. We bought this at a fine quality antique market in Illinois about 18 years ago and paid handsomely for it. The dealer we bought it from may not have known what it was as they had this marked as a beaded war club. I still have the sales tag. They told us it came from a Kansas City estate. My husband knew that it was not entirely original, but a reproduction perhaps re-hafted in the 1940's. Nonetheless it was well done and so we went ahead and purchased it. It hung on our wall for many years but has been tucked away for many more years, so out it goes. Now my husband works in an industry w he deals with fine museums (such as the Chicago Field Museum ) and he works with Native Americans. So he has gained knowledge, seen many original pieces and has decided this is an item he can part with. His description to me is that it is ornate brass, perhaps French Victorian in origin, with a steel blade which is rusted. The head looks old and has wonderful patina. It has been re-hafted at some point and that is the area which my husband believes was done in the 1940's. It's his guess that it is either Sioux or Cheyenne . This is a guess. Overall age is unknown. Remember, this is probably a reproduction in one or more areas but no later than the 1940's so it's still vintage. It is in excellent condition. The pipe tomahawk itself does move a little on the frame but is stable. The beads, feathers, and all other areas are a nice balance between appearing vintage and not falling apart or showing serious wear. 18" long from top to bottom; the head is 7.5" x 2.5" We have decided to try Buy it Now on this piece and see how it goes. I would like to ship this Priority Mail due to value and size. My husband knows how to pack well and may even make a foam core "box" for it. I'm putting S&H at $12.00 for this reason. I am a very honest eBayer. If S&H are considerably less than quoted by more than a couple of dollars, I will refund the difference to you. I need to mention a couple things in my listings. Please take the time to read this as I have thought long and hard before writing it. Feedback is something that I do not leave until I know that the buyer has received the item and that t are no issues. If t is an issue or a question, I feel it only fair to be aware of it and attempt to remedy it before anyone takes action which may adversely affect either of us. I have never had a negative or questionable sale (I love selling on eBay and have an excellent reputation of which I am proud) until recently. I have had a few things that concern me greatly so I feel the need to clarify my Feedback policy in writing. Also, I will no longer sell anything to anyone outside of the U.S. And I will now insist on Delivery Confirmation for all items even in the U.S. . I loved selling to people outside of the U.S. even though it can be more involved. I have done extremely well with overseas shipping as well as to Canada but again, recently, some things have occurred which ruin the positive fun experience of eBay for me.
