Excellent image of a beautiful girl who poses in richly detailed clothes. This dag by John Plumbe Jr. is early. Her image is on a heavy, flat, resilvered plate bearing "Scovills No. 2" hallmark. This 1/6th plate daguerreotype has no wipes or mat abrasions. New glass and professionally resealed with P-90 archival tape. Housed in a complete case with intact hinge and a purple silk pillow in excellent condition. The case has the "Manufactured at the Plumbe National Daguerrian Depot, New York" label in it. It is exceptional rare as it is found in a 'lyre' style case. I have seen only one other Plumbe label in this type of case and it is found in an oversize 1/4 plate case with Plumbe dag also in my collection. In fact the lighting of this girl and the lighting of the Plumbe girl in my collection are identical meaning they were both shot in the same studio. To my knowledge, this case has never been published, certainly not in Paul Berg's book. Detail of her cameo has been enhanced for clarity. It is of a woman in a flowing gown on one knee and looking over her shoulder. T is billowing cloth behind her too.
