This Very Rare and Very large 19th Century Ansonia Wooden Mantle clock that plays the lovely musical Westminster chimes was found at a recent private estate sale along with with several other antique clocks. (Please view the pictures below). This clock's all wooden case is very impressive with a overall height of 11" and a wide width of 23" and a depth of 8". The clock was beautifully designed with a very high rounded dome top that is accented with long sweeping downward sides that are highlighted at the ends with rounded and concaved moldings . The back has a hinged wooden door to allow access to the movement inside. Displayed in the large dome top is the large 6" diameter face . The face is protected behind a circular shaped, clear and beveled glass panel that is trimmed with a solid Brass metal frame. This panel is also hinged to give access to the face. The face was created on a Silver color metal and numbered with large Black Arabic script numerals . The upper part of the face has a 'Fast-Slow' adjustment and next to this is a 'Chime shutoff ' in case you do not desired to hear the chimes. The face also has a 'Level bubble' in the center for making sure the clock is level. In the upper center is the word "ANSONIA" and at the bottom the following is printed "MADE BY THE ANSONIA CLOCK CO NY USA". The hands are also very decorative and held in the center with a metal pin. The movement is magnificent in quality . It's a key wind (comes with key) and operated by a metal pendulum. The clock runs perfect and plays the musical Westminster tunes on every quarter hour. On the hour the chimes will then strike the amount of times fo the hour on day. The lovely sounds are played on a five bar chime arrangement by soft hammers that are pulled up and down with brass chains. The movement is also marked as follow" THEN ANSONIA CLOCK CO NEW YORK USA PATS PENDING". T is a metal plaque on the back access door that reads at the bottom 'SONIA 1".. (I'm assuming this might be the number #1 clock made of this style?) The overall condition is exceptional and everything works. This is a incredibly rare clock and will be a great addition to any home's decor or your private collection. Please check my other auctions for more of the estate's antique clock collection being sold at this time and the very near future. Buyer to pay shipping costs.
