THIS PRINT IS ABSOLUTE MINT PERFECT CONDITION! MARC CHAGALL (1887-1985) Marc Chagall is recognized as one of the most significant and critically acclaimed artists of the 20th century. Chagall is a Russian-born French painter, born July 7, 1887, in Vitsyebsk, Russia and was educated in art in Saint Petersburg and, from 1910, in Paris, where he remained until 1914. Director of the Art Academy in Vitsyebsk from 1918 to 1919 and the Moscow Jewish State Theater from 1919 to 1922. In 1923, he moved to France, where he spent the rest of his life, except for a period of residence in the United States from 1941 to 1948. Chagall's first retrospective took place in 1924 at the Galerie Barbazanges-Hodebert, Paris. During the 1930s, he traveled to Palestine, the Netherlands, Spain, Poland, and Italy. In 1933, the Kunsthalle Basel held a major retrospective of his work. During World War II, Chagall fled to the United States. The Museum of Modern Art, New York, gave him a retrospective in 1946 that was an enormous success. He settled permanently in France in 1948 and exhibited in Paris, Amsterdam, and London. During the 1960s, Chagall continued to travel widely, often in association with large-scale commissions he received including a ceiling for the Paris Opera, installed in 1964, a window for the United Nations building, New York, murals for the Metropolitan Opera House and more. Besides his paintings and glass-windows for Roman-Catholic cathedrals and Jewish synagogues, he created a stunning plethora of prints.
