This opal has a variety of precious opals that is embedded in and cut with part of the surrounding matrix. Some stones have tiny iridescent multicoloured specks due to ironstone inclusions too numerous to be isolated, so that the whole mass is cut and polished. Some specimens have a film of black opal over a layer of matrix.
