Offered is a very unusual item; a good sized (5.5cm along the axis) fully inflated and finely preserved Diademoproetus sp ., preserved in a stable, bright metallic pyrite. This preservation in granular pyrite is restricted to only certain calcareous horizons; this example is from the Lower Devonian, Upper Emsian of Torkoz, S.W. Draa Valley, Morocco. When the preserving limestone is so richly pyritous, any attempt to fabricate or reconstruct any part of the fossil would be obvious, as the metallic sheen would not prepare..........thes specimen is 100% genuine! The only defect is that the right genal spine is missing in part and the 2nd. axial ring has a fragment of shell missing. On the plus side, the eyes are magnificent and the multitudinous tiny lenses are intact! No reserve!
