Thank you for taking the time to look at my auction. Today up for your consideration, is a breathtaking victorian large upright vanity or dresser box! I love these llarge celluloid vanity boxes, I wish I had lots but this is all I have left. Made in the late 1800's these were used by high end ladies of the house & they held, mirrors,nail files,cut crystal small jars & buffers & hair brushes & combs & this one even has a place for a pocket watch in the bottom drawer, along with a open pleated area t for jewelry. Also if you can see behind the watch holder is a orange & green velvet area for rings. At one time this was a very expensive item, as not all the upright ones had a drawer & extra storage space on top. Now the outside, although imperfect,has hundreds of beautiful morning glory flowers all over. As you can see this box is stunning!! FLAWS: & t are many, the outside celluloid, is faded. As seen in pictures & age crazing & crackling as well. The front has the age crazing on the 2 doors mainly as seen in the pics. & just light crazing on the left side & NONE on the back, but the right side is bad, t is chipping off of the celluloid & I see glueing done by someone before me. I am also unsure if all 3 beveled mirrors are original. I do believe the top one is as I see a tiny worn spot on the silver & a few very faint & light scratches. however the other 2 beveled mirrors are almost too perfect to be over 100 yrs. old but w would you find anyone who would make copies of thes is beyound me. I tried once to get a old antique hand mirror glass remade but the cost was so high it was not worth it at all so if someone did replace these breathtaking mirrors, then they paid a small fortune to have it done. Anyway, all the brass frames are in near mint condition. The silk inside is dusting & w the original brush sat is starting to melt or fray. I did find 2 original brass tiny nails & I can see that one belongs on the top frame & one below on the left frame. They will be in a small envelope for the new owner. Some of the wonderful silk or silk like materials have fading & t as seen in pics but one of the nicest interiors I have seen in these antique upright vanity or dresser boxes. The good news is the brass hinges & handle are AMAZING & all accounted for. All latches,hinges & handle are ORIGINAL & very ornate!!! It is 13 & 1/2" tall by 12 & 1/4" wide by 8" deep. It's a big one! Even larger with fully opened. I have a modest reserve of only 195.00 because of the condition flaws but keep in mind most of this box is amazing & only one side really has the chiping problem. The rest looks like patina that should come with a item over 100 yrs. old. Thanks for taking the time to read all this & for considering this wonderful box.
