Beautiful, working, 1930's Aircastle wood table radio. This model dates to 1939. Aircastle was the brand of Spiegel stores, much like Silvertone was the house brand of Sears Roebuck stores. The set has been refinished sometime in the past. Great styling, it has a arts and crafts themed speaker grille, showing sunflowers. The radio features a green acts tuning eye, which projects a green "butterfly/curtain pattern" showing closed wings when a strong station is tuned. The eye works well. (It is photographed unpowered/unlit in most photos.) The US made eye tube is bright, so you can see it easily in a daylit room. Many ebay sellers dump a dim eye into a radio and tell you to view it in a dark room- or do a chop job on the eye tube socket and stuff a Chinese eye in t Unit has the original knobs, marbled pushbuttons, grille cloth, and clear dial lens. The dial scale is excellent and has no blurred characters. Plays loudly, clearly with good tone, no hum- on both bands. The set has the usual AM/broadcast band, and a large coverage shortwave band, 5.8-16 mHz. Just tonight, I heard Russia, China, Japan, Cuba, Spain, and Canada. The radio features pushbutton tuning, which allows you to set your favorite stations- it is tested and works. The radio measures at 22 inches wide, 8 1/2 deep and 10 high inches high. All radios sold have had preventative electrical maintainence, so that they perform as well in the foreseeable future...as they do when you first get them. I stand behind the components I've repaired, parts and labor- for 90 days. After that- free labor for 6 months. Why would you bother with someone who says they've "restored" the radio and then tell you you are buying "as is"? The insides of my radios are given the same attention as the outsides. Selling beautiful, working radios on ebay continuously, since 1998. Each radio is packed in a way to guarantee that you won't be filing an insurance claim.
