Beautiful, working, 1930's Ailine bakelite radio. The set dates to 1938/39, and the styling is classic deco streamlining. Airline was the house brand of Montomery Ward department stores, much like Silvertone was the house brand of Sears Roebuck. Excellent luster, a gorgeous, marbled dark chocholate brown bakelite, subtly swirled in lighter and darker shades. No chips or cracks in the cabinet, photo shows reflections of the backdrop blanket, me, and my camera, no marring. Impeccibly clean, inside and out, it will pass the white glove test- a final detail cleaning is accomplished with Q-tips. Unit has the original knobs, grille cloth, lever tips/buttons, and dial lens. The lever tips often detriorated or missing and replaced with incorrect tips. This model is almost never found with the original grille cloth, as it is almost always detriorated- this is a rare exception. In addition to the dial tuning, the lever/pushbutton tuning allows presets, like the old car radios, to zip to your favorite stations- it is working quietly and smoothly. Above the levers are windows that accept station call letter tabs, which can be provided upon request to customize the set to your city if you wish (I have an old set of paper tabs in which only a few US cities have been spoken for). The set plays loudly, clearly with good tone, no hum. Has good, safe, power cord and working dial light. The radio measures 12 inches long, 8 high, 6 1/2 deep. As with all my radios, the luster and sheen on the bakelite is natural, exhibiting the original characteristics of the bakelite when newly made....no coatings (permanent or temporary), sprays, or oils are used to glam it up. All radios sold have had preventative electrical maintainence, so that they perform as well in the foreseeable future...as they do when you first get them. I stand behind the components I've repaired, parts and labor- for 90 days. After that- free labor for 6 months. Why would you bother with someone who says they've "restored" the radio and then tell you you are buying "as is"? The insides of my radios are given the same attention as the outsides. Celebrating ten years on ebay- selling beautiful, working radios on ebay continuously, since 1998. Each radio is packed in a way to guarantee that you won't be filing an insurance claim. Buyer pays shipping, $27 insured ground in US, more elsew is accepted, please see other radios for sale- in my no reserve auctions, and other bakelite and wood sets, and in my new fixed price, buy it now, ebay store.
