Beautiful, working, 1940's RCA Victor catalin tube radio. This is a catalin radio, and the swirling is so marvelous, and complex. The material is so intriguing because these swirls of ruby red and butterscotch are seen with a three dimensionality. Unlike bakelite, which is topical in it's swirling, the catalin swirling has great depth. The catalin material is semi translucent, which allows you to see into the material to an extent, giving it a great depth and presence. The colors are found in their natural aged paetina- in shades of red and butterscotch- no cosmetic repairs made. Excellent luster, no cracks or chips in the cabinet, knobs or grille, photo shows reflections of the backdrop blanket, no marring. Perfection in some sets like this is obtained by some sellers who state "exhibits no cracks" and "restored to the original color when sold"- only to see a set showing no swirling in an age appropriate butterscotch or yellow- because it was repaired with toned resins, and needed to be sanded down to the underlying original white/alibaster when blended. That kind of perfection proves to be imperfect in about a year when shrinkage and a color change reveals the crime- give a look at item # 190273696775- you are safest when you buy in paetina. Excellent luster, no chips or cracks in the cabinet, photo shows reflections of the backdrop blanket, no marring. Impeccibly clean, inside and out, it will pass the white glove test. Unit has the original knobs, dial lens/scale, grille cloth, and the rarely seen cardboard back. Plays loudly, clearly with good tone, no hum- on both bands. It has the usual AM/broadcast band, as well a shortwave band- rarely seen on a catalin radio. Has good, safe, power cord and working dial light. The radio measures 16 inches long, 9 high, 9 deep. As with all my radios, the luster and sheen on the bakelite is natural, exhibiting the original characteristics of the bakelite when newly made....no coatings (permanent or temporary), sprays, or oils are used to glam it up. All radios sold have had preventative electrical maintainence, so that they perform as well in the foreseeable future...as they do when you first get them. I stand behind the components I've repaired, parts and labor- for 90 days. After that- free labor for 6 months. Why would you bother with someone who says they've "restored" the radio and then tell you you are buying "as is"- and why would someone's warrantee be worth anything if you can't find them again on ebay? The insides of my radios are given the same attention as the outsides. Celebrating ten years on ebay- Selling beautiful, working radios on ebay continuously, since 1998. Each radio is packed in a way to guarantee that you won't be filing an insurance claim. Buyer pays shipping, $31 insured Fed Ex ground service in US, more elsew is accepted, please see other radios for sale- in my no reserve auctions, and other bakelite, catalin, and wood sets and in my new fixed price, buy it now, ebay store.
