Ca. 1922 Deforest D-7a Reflex Radiophone.
As you can see in the photographs, this collector-quality example is in outstanding condition throughout. Panel is nearly perfect, with original lettering and no cracks, scratches or other damage. Condenser dials turn freely, and the lettering is original on them as well. Both rheostats are correct and original. Original Deforest detector is working properly, and both of the Deforest audio transformers are good. Cabinet is in excellent condition, with its original finish and no damage, no warps, no wood rot. T's a clean shrinkage hairline on the side of the cabinet (a function of age) but that's the only issue worth noting. All four escutcheons remain in place on the battery wire holes. The loop has been restrung, and the loop decal has been replaced, but the loop appears to be otherwise original, with no cracks or other damage in the bakelite centerpiece. Lettering on the plug-in RF coils is worn, but all of the coils have continuity and the radio is able to tune in strong local stations with just its loop (although a longwire outdoor antenna certainly improves reception). The three DV audion tubes have good emissions, and the radio is able to power both headphones and a high impedance horn loudspeaker. Overall, this D-7a is among the best examples you're likely to encounter. The filament switch is original and requires a bit of fidgeting to get the filaments to light. T is probably some oxidation on the contacts. Nonetheless, if you're patient and play with a bit, the filaments will all light, the radio will come on, and it will play loudly and clearly through a vintage speaker.
