Takehisa Yumeji (1884 - 1934) Sealed by Publisher, Pencil numbered #102/300 Takehisa Yumeji - Born in the small village of Honjo in the Okayama prefecture in 1884, Yumeji had an early interest in the arts. He showed promise with his sketches of people and places as a child. As a young adult, Yumeji wanted to move to Tokyo and pursue his interest in the arts. His parents were insistent that he get an education. So he left for Tokyo as a young adult and enrolled at the Waseda University College of Art w he studied art and met many of the contemporary artists in Tokyo . At age 23 Yumeji married Tamaki Kishi who became a model for many of his Japanese beauty prints. His wood block print work began to get an enthusiastic following in Japan and in 1931 he went to the United States in an attempt to interest a foreign audience in his arts. T was little foreign interest in Yumeji's art before his death. However, in the subsequent decades to follow Yumeji's prints have been very popular and highly sought after by collectors. This collection- This print is from a collection of eight Yumeji beauty subjects purchased from a Japanese estate of this year.
