Up for auction is an adorable little BEAVER fetish carving by Zuni Pueblo artisan Sedrick Banteah . This lifelike fellow is carved from a predominantly grey piece of Picasso marble with inlaid turquoise eyes. He measures about 1&3/4 inches long, a little over 3/4 inch high, and about 1/2 inch wide. Intricate etching over the whole body gives the impression of fur. This is a Native American hand-carved item and comes from the Zuni Pueblo in northern New Mexico. The artist has initialed the piece, "SB," on the bottom along with the word "Zuni." In Zuni tradition, each animal is believed to have innt powers or qualities that may aid the owner of a fetish carved in the image of that animal.
