Up for bid is this very beautiful Beaver State,Pendleton Woolen Mills, American Indiana Robe/Shaw/Blanket. This blanket is part of the Chihuly Collection of American Indian Trade Blankets. Beautifully crafted and brightly colored, this blanket entitled “Dr. Whirlwind” is a limited edition, number 73 of 150, and is signed by CM Bishop III, president of Pendleton Woolen Mills. The blanket was made for and sold by the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art. It comes complete with a guide to “The Language of Design” which describes the different meanings of the patterns of the blankets. This particular blanket is a reproduction of Pendleton’s early 19 th century blanket “Dr. Whirlwind”. The vivacious colorful blanket design is a historic Jacquard pattern finished unnapped for greater clarity of design. It measures 64” x 80”. Also included is a page called “The Language of the Robe” showing how the blankets were worn as part of the language of the Native American. This blanket originally sold and purchased for $225. It has only been out of the box for photographing and has never been displayed or used. It has been stored in a conditioned smoke free home in its original box and is in mint condition. Colors on opposing sides are reverse, so you have two color possibilities for display. Photos that show the blanket laid out are taken from the side of the blanket, the golden yellow ends are the top and bottom of the blanket so the design actually runs horizontally. Please help us find this beautiful and rare item a wonderful home.!
