BEDIASITE: RARE METEORITE TEKTITE This is a tektite from Grimes County, Texas one of the only two types of tektites found in the United States. (The other tektite being Georgiaites valued at $100.00/g). These rare tektites were first identified in 1936 and have since been found in other counties in south eastern Texas along the coastline. I have one friend that has searched the fields 5 times coming home so far with only 3 tektites. The layer of ground they come out of slowly erodes bringing a few more of these to the surface every year. However, now with housing developing it is only a matter of time before no more Bediasites will be recoverable. The Bediasite tektite in this auction is shown in the photograph below. Specimen weighs 12.8 grams and has typical Bediasite etching on it. The tektite will come with a label from noting it from the Monnig Collection.
