These large fragrant flowers are snow-white with yellow stamens floating on the water surface and attracting bees, flies and beetles. Such a beauty has been skillfully rendered on the coin thanks to the pad printing technique. The obverse of this White Water Lily coin bears the Coat of Arms of the Republic of Belarus surrounded by the inscriptions indicating the name of the issuing country, the face value of the coin as well as the issuing year. The reverse of the coin is decorated with the image of white water lilies, one of them being colored with a dragonfly landing on it. This plant roots in the mud at the bottom of the lakes and slow flowing rivers and blooms between June and September. Its round, bright green, notched leaves usually grow to 6 to 12 inches in diameter. The water lily got its Latin name due to water nymphs, the beautiful fairylike goddesses in Greek mythology.
