The Belgian yellow coticule combination stone is quarried in an area where the yellow vein runs into the blue stone. This does result is a stone that is a yellow Coticule on one side and blue on the other. These are considered rare. This renowned natural earth stone is quarried in the Ardennes (Belgium) from geological formations that are over 480 million years old. The Belgian coticule stones offer an amazing combination of honing properties resulting in an incredible smooth and sharp edge. The blue stone is around the 4000 - 5000 grit while the yellow is around the 8000 - 10000 grit level. You can use the stones with slurry, wet or dry. Each will give a different stage and result. The yellow coticule contains about 35-40% of garnets and the blue has around 30% of garnet content. Belgian whetstones will sharpen any kind of steeland this includes stainless steel and high speed steel (HSS), such as knives, chisels, scissors, axes, adzes, draw knives, straight razors and much more. The stone is non-porous and is used with water only. Coticule is one of the rarest natural stones in the world. The yellow coticule measures just barely under 10 mm deep at the deepest point, and measures 7 mm deep at the thinnest point .
