This beautiful golden Bell Metal Posnet is of English origin and dates anyw from 1775 to 1846 approximately. Posnets have the same rounded form and feet as cauldrons but have a handle in addition. Skillets and Posnets were made in a lead bronze, often called Bell Metal. Seventeenth century skillets had admonishing inscriptions while 18th and 19th century skillets generally have the maker inscribed on the handle. Both the Cauldron and the Skillets and Posnets were meant to stand directly in the fire while the later flat-bottom Saucepans were intended to sit on top of a stove. This documented Skillet by COX of Taunton would be an exciting and excellent addition to a collection of antique metalware or kitchen bygones. The Skillet has no repairs or restorations. This posnet is about 4.25 inches tall and is about 5.5 inches in diameter and is about 13.5 inches in length. This is a very unique and beautiful Posnet or Skillet for your collection and enjoyment!
