You are buying from a professional antiques business founded in 1981
we offer the hard to find kettle in the Thorn pattern, Degenhardt D774; if you have the tea set then this is a very rare chance to add the kettle. This particular kettle is also top of the range in quality being both painted and gilded. The Thorn pattern was one of the earliest tea set patterns and is illustrated in Degenhardt at pages 81 and 197. Degenhardt valued this piece in 1993 at $1000; we are asking a lot less than that.
It is marked on the base with the first printed black mark and the early impressed mark and the British design registration diamond mark which is too blurred to decode but would date this piece to prior to 1883.
The condition is as good as it gets, no chips, cracks, restoration or wear to the painted areas or gilding.
We will be away for part of this auction but will answer all questions before it ends.
