Benjamin Franklin was a successful newspaper editor and printer in Philadelphia. He became a national hero when he spearheaded the effort to have Parliament repeal the unpopular Stamp Act. An accomplished diplomat, he was widely admired among French as American Minister to Paris and was a major figure in the development of positive Franco-American relations.Info on these Bookends: The original finish is intact and old. There are minimal minor scuffs and nicks around the bases. There is slight rub on the tip of his nose of the left bookend. The bookends measure 4.75" tall, 3.75" wide and 2" deep. Nice heavy weight. The pair weighs a hefty 5 pounds! The reverse of each bookend is inscribed: "Benjamin Franklin" "Printer" "DIE CAST BY BARNHART BROTHERS & SPINDLERSUPERIOR COPPER MIXED TYPE AND DIE CASTING". This company closed in 1933. These bookends were made some time between 1870-1933. These are signed by J.G. Ewell.
