BENJAMIN FRANKLIN MOTTO CHILD'S PLATE A Delightful Handpainted Staffordshire Children's Dish can be found in this listing for a Franklin Motto (also called "Proverb" or "Maxim") Plate, circa 1850-1880s, hailing from Staffordshire, England. This Plate is a fine example of one in a series of plates that represent Franklin's early published maxims. The central Black Transferware Illustration features an elaborately rendered Vintage Shopkeeper Scene of "GOODFELLOW GROCER." The Motto reads: "KEEP THY SHOP AND THY SHOP WILL KEEP THEE. Franklin's Proverbs." Please scroll down to see our photos. (And note that what looks like it may be a hairline just about the Goodfellow Sign is actually a small imperfection in the background of the transfer and not a flaw or sign of damage.) Measuring approximately 5½ inches in diameter, the Plate sports a press molded Flower and Wheat Shaft Border presented in deep relief. This Piece is in very good to excellent condition, without any chips, cracks, breaks, hairlines, or restorations that we can detect and just a tad of crazing that is appropriate to this type of vintage pottery. T is an impress mark on the reverse side, but we are unable to decipher it. The detailing of this Plate is Singular. Truly Exceptional. And the Condition is so Outstanding that the Plate would be an ideal addition to any collection read more
