At one time, Ben Wade made some of the finest pipes in the world. Founded in the 1860's, it was located in Leeds, Yorkshire until 1965 when it was bought by its major competitor, Charatan, and the name was relegated to Charatan seconds with a London Made designation. These post 1965 pipes are a mere shadow of the Leeds variety, is a Leeds Billiard shape #1, showing its age with great character and supurb smokability. A medium sized pipe, very comfortable in the mouth, this one is 5.94 " long, with a bowl OD of 1.44", ID of .84", and a bowl height of 1.78". Holds a generous amount of tobacco. Some slight discoloring of the vulcanite around the tip of the bit, and some light tooth marks. This one has somewhat weak nomenclature, worn with years of polishing, but readable. A really rare and fine pipe!
