Up for auction is, in my opinion, the rarest Tejano 45 RPM record on the planet! This record is, without a doubt, the rarest Tejano 45 RPM record in my Tejano vinyl music collection, which has taken me over 40 years to compile. I am only selling it because I have a total of six copies...all MINT, and all with the original picture sleeve. It is one thing to find a copy of this historically important Tejano 45 RPM record in any condition, which I doubt that you will, but it is impossible to find this record in MINT condition and still in its original picture sleeve like this one! The list of Tejano mega stars who contributed their time to record this benefit 45 included Little Joe and Johnny, from Little Joe And The Latinaires, Augustine Ramirez, Joe Bravo, Conjunto Bernal, Manuel Solis, Luis Bernal, Beto Martinez, and Agapito Zuniga, who composed and directed the recording of this song. I guarantee you that you will never find another Tejano 45 RPM recording with so many Legendary Tejano Music Stars together on the same record...it simply doesn't exist! This song is a sentimental corrido titled EL CORRIDO DE JOHNNY CANALES, which chronicles an unfortunate auto accident that took place on January 9, 1970. The A side corrido is part 1, and the B side corrido is part 2. This record was recorded in 1970 in San Antonio, Texas, and it was an exclusive benefit 45 RPM record to help defray the medical and funeral expenses of two musicians from the Johnny Canales Orchestra who died instantly in an auto accident, and another musician who died shortly tafter in the hospital. The unfortunate accident occured as the orchestra was on its way to Corpus Christi, Texas from San Antonio, Texas. Johnny Canales had just finished performing at Joe Bravo's night club in San Antonio, a Friday night, and they were driving to Corpus Christi to perform at another gig on Saturday night. The corrido talks about the accident that night that took a total of three lives, and about the risks that bands are exposed to because they are on the road so much. Many years later, another Tejano band named Intocable, suffered the same fate, and as all Tejano music fans know, Emilio Navaida narrowly escaped death when he crashed his bus in Houston after a late night gig a few years ago. According to the picture sleeve that accompanies this ultra rare record, it was only sold at dances and at radio stations, and the donation was $1.00. I don't know how many copies were pressed of this ultra rare 45 RPM record, but I assure you that it was much less than the usual run of 5,000 first pressings for a Tejano genre single release. This 45 RPM record receives a grade of MINT, and the picture sleeve receives a grade of VG++, due to a minor tear in the upper right corner of the front of the sleeve, and a bit of red spotting on the right side of the of the back of the sleeve. But the photos and the printing on the sleeve are quite clear, as is the printing on both labels. You will not be disappointed in the condition of this record or this sleeve.
