#41 You are bidding on an ( Original Bronze Benin Wall Plaque) which is cleverly displayed in a triple matted Shadow Box. This wall plaque adorned the palaces of the Benin Empire during the height of their reign. This particular piece as with other plaques of similar origin, depicts the King guarded by his royal guards. This magnificent piece was purchased for a personal collection. This piece retails anyw from $1500.00 to $4,000.00 without the shadow box. Its dimensions are 27 3/4" in height x 25 3/4" long and is 31/2" deep. The shadow box and frame were custom designed to preserve the piece and are made of quality wood. The frame has a nice texture. The shadow box alone cost us $1,200.00. No accurate age has been established for this piece, all we know is that it was purchased directly from an importer of African artifacts. Any true collector will recognize the tremendous value of this piece. Good Luck on your bidding :) The Kingdom of Benin was a widespread empire that flourished from the 14th to the 19th century . At its maximum extent the Kingdom extended from Onitsha in the east, through the forested southwestern region of Nigeria and into the present-day nation of Benin . Its capital was located at Benin City , in what is now southwestern Nigeria. Ruled by the Oba of Benin , the kingdom is most famous for its treasured artifacts in bronze, iron and vory, including bronze wall plaques and the life-sized bronze heads of kings of Benin Check out my other items !
