Here is a huge crystal of Benitoite that features the classic three sided crystal form it is famous for. It also has two gemmy tips that show good clarity. One of these could cut a nice-sized stone if desired, but keep in mind, this is a great specimen first and foremost. Triply terminated Benitoite crystals over an inch (This one is just a couple of hairs short of one inch on its longest edge) and even partially gemmy crystals of this size are exceedingly rare. The Benitoite Gem Mine has been closed since May, 2008, This is the one mine where gem crystals such as these were found. Quality Specimens are becoming hard to find. Benitoite is my specialty, and I etched this specimen personally! This is truly a fine, full sized Thumbnail or small miniature that will grace a fine collection. This specimen includes the handcut and painted acrylic stand and labeling as shown in the photos. The Specimen will be dismounted from stand for shipping, for safety. This auction will include the classic 1977 Mineralogical Record, volume 8 number 6 issue featuring California Minerals, with what is undoubtedly the most informative article ever written about the Benitoite Gem Mine. This rare, out of print magazine is highly sought by collectors, and is a $45.00 value! The magazine is in used but good condition considering it is over 30 years old!.
