We offer these two unusual and rare lapel pins from the election of 1888 for your consideration. In 1888, the incumbent president was Benjamin Harrison. He dropped his vice president, Levi Morton, and ran with Whitelaw Reid, the Ambassador to England. They lost. We believe the Harrison-Reid pin is made of a silver ink or paint stamped on a blue fabric. We are not familiar with this type of pin and have never seen one before. The Harrison pin is a more familiar embossed or stamped metal with Harrison's name on a red and blue flag background. Both pins are about 3/4 inch in diameter and are in good condition. The Harrison-Reid pin clearly shows their names on a shield, but the writing underneath is illegible. This is an unusual pair of political pins and a great bit of Americana. We have a large number of political, health and World War I era pins available, so watch our listings. We gladly combine shipping and answer any questions.
