The decoration is superb on this 19th C. American Woodland Indian basket from northern New England. The shape is very nice with the base starting square and the top being round with an interesting weaved pattern to the conical lid. The basket is very large at 15" square at the base, 17" diameter at the top, the cover is 18 1/4" diameter and it stands 16" tall. The colors on the hand painted and stamped designs are excellent throughout, the top pattern being repeated on the lid which sort of meanders around the entire circumference and then the lower area of the basket with stylized floral patterns throughout. Yes t is some issues with the corners, t are mice holes in three corners and the fourth is slighly soft at the bottom...this is an apology for sure but the size, overall condition and color and design are the best I have seen on ebay in a while. The twisted wrap around the top of the basket is in great condition. The twisted wrap on the lid is also. I have taken a photo of it for you to see the area w the splints overlap...the splint is on top of the looped wrap but the wrap is in great condition...no breaks, I do not know why the banding is this way. The interior is covered with a newspaper that dates from 1832, is the basket that old, I do not know for sure but guarantee 100% it is definately 19th C. Aside from the mouse holes the baskets just sits t and looks so pretty, still with an estate dusty surface and great original patina. I am sure it can be repaired and this is the type of basket that putting a few dollars of restoration into it is well worth it...especially when it is offered for $9.99 with no reserve!
