An amazing piece of early 19th century folk art , (circa 1820-40) this period utensil rack / game holder exhibits the best quality of early blacksmith craft coupled with unique early design. A rack such as this would have been proudly hung on the interior of an early home, likely near the cooking station of a house, be it an open hearthfire place or a cast iron panel stove. The bottom hooks of the piece were fashioned to support the open loops on period iron spoons, skimmers, spatulas, and peels. While most elaborate in nature, the blacksmith who created this piece took the time and effort to transform an otherwise utilitarian holder into a masterwork of folk art. In addition to the numerous curl decorations, the smith incorporated Overall the piece is in excellent condition for its age. There is some very slight oxidation (as one would expect) from time, else a strong example, striking in both form and craft, ready to compliment a collection of like aged utensils evoking not only a refection of prior methods but a common-thread to traditions we still use today. This handsome example of early ironwork is offered for a period of one week with no reserve.
