The Holy Grail of Bettie Page collectibles! Here is an excellent copy of the January 1955 issue of Playboy featuring a centerfold photo of Bettie Page, considered by some to be the most exciting and sensuous American beauty of all time.
Bettie (often misspelled Betty) Page was always in demand as a pinup model in the 1950s. Her sensuous, playful, girl next door beauty has established her as a modern icon one of the most photogenic and beautiful pinup queens of any era. This copy is in superb condition. The back cover, as you can see from the scan, has some rub marks. At some time, the magazine was folded vertically, so the crease is slightly visible on the inside pages. The front page also has a few rub marks but they are barely visible. The cover and centerfold are detached from the staples, but the rest of the magazine is still stapled together with no writing, rips or tears. The main thing is, the centerfold with Bettie Page is spectacular. Since Ruby Lane is a family-friendly site, we're not showing the full photo of all Bettie's charms. However, believe it when we say this is one of the best Bettie photos ever! E-mail us if you'd like to see a full scan. The centerfold is detached from the staples as I mentioned, but in excellent condition. The fold mark is visible, as is usually the case with Playboy centerfolds. You'll notice that this is not the 3-fold size common to modern Playboy centerfolds; it measures 11" x 17". Another interesting note: Today's Playboy models get a full biography and photo spread when they appear in the magazine. During this era, the magazine didn't even list the model's name! For those who only look at Playboy for the articles, this issue also contains stories by Ray Bradbury, Erskine Caldwell and John Steinbeck! This is one of the most sought-after Playboy issues. Shipping and insurance are free!
