BIANCHI Model VARAZZE Exclusive Italian Vintage Cycle from Year 1948 VARAZZE model is one of the rarest and beautiful city bicycles ever manufactured by legendary Edoardo Bianchi, Milan . The bicycle shown here was manufactured in 1948 and today, after having been completely dismantled, carefully polished and greased, it’s still in exceptional state of preservation - exactly as it came out from Bianchi Industries 62 years ago (see picture # 2 from Bianchi 1946 catalogue as reference ). Both paint and parts are fully original with the exceptions of saddle, spokes and pedals rubber cubes - which have been substituted because missing or irreparably damaged. ITEM IS OFFERED AS-IS, NO WARRANTY OR RETURN ALLOWED A BRIEF HISTORY OF VARAZZE MODEL VARAZZE model was introduced for the first time with the 1940 Bianchi catalogue and the very first reason that’s a very rare model is due to the fact it was manufactured for a few years only. Indeed from 1940 to 1943 it was offered only in Black/White arrows with Green lining. In 1943 the Bianchi plants were almost destroyed by war air-bombing. When Edoardo Bianchi industries re-opened in 1946 a second version was introduced, painted in Silver/Green arrows with Red fillets - like the bicycle shown here. Differently from the early version that new one mounted also a 3-speed Simplex Champion du Monde derailleur, Universal racing brakes and several gorgeous aluminium parts like fenders, chain guard, rims, hubs, brakes and pedals. Several of those parts - along with a special sport handlebar - were exclusively manufactured for that model only. Due to the large use of aluminium components and Simplex derailleur VARAZZE model was pretty expensive at the time (and that’s the second reason for its rarity today) as well as a really lightweight and charming ladies’ city bicycle especially if compared to other classic bicycles of its era. Starting with the 50’s there’s no more trace of the VARAZZE model on any Bianchi catalogue and it’s supposed there’re only very few original exemplars spread around the world today.
