Bible in Dutch. Large heavy Folio. Leather with brass corners (lacks clasps). Amsterdam, Jacob Lindenberg, 1702. 4 double-page maps and double-page View of Jerusalem. The map of the world shows California as an island. T are four full pages beautifully colored and heightened with gold. Several sections have separate titlepages dated 1701. and a short section in the preliminary matter is dated 1703.
The Bible has been fully illustrated by the well-known artist of that period, Romeyn de Hooghe, with 138 engravings on 69 plates (one has a short closed tear, no loss). The book is 17x11 inches (43x29 cm) and is over 5 inches thick. The binding is worn, the joints are broken and the front cover is almost completely detached. The maps have short splits at the bottom w they have been folded. Minimal foxing or toning and t, altogether, aside from the worn binding, in very good condition.
