Biedermeier Moser Vaseline FLINT CANARY Enameled Tray Description: T was a discussion of this pattern, the age, and the style on the Vaselineglassc2c list on Yahoo last month. Imagine my surprise when I found another piece of this fairly scarce glass. From that discussion this predates the Moser factory but Moser was involved with this? Whatever, this is an incredible display plate or bowl. I believe actually these are called Ice Cream Bowls. It is canary FLINT glass. Meaning very high lead content and it rings like lead crystal. I'm amazed at how little is worn of the pattern. T is some gold wear on the 1/4" thick edges but not bad, it is at least 80% complete still. Then the enameled design of cabbage roses surrounded by gold and colored enamel is just simply beautiful. Tremendous artistry! This was hand blown and the pontil is fired and polished in the middle. This glass is extremely brittle. T are 2 flakes on the outside of the outer edge which I have photographed as a close up. They are actually very small but I blew up the edge in the photo so they could be shown. Some of the points have roughness that I can feel, but can't see. Considering this is true Flint and is canary, I'm amazed at the great condition actually! 160 years and still !So this is the finest of Bohemian glass and is tremendously early glass. And it is beautiful! read more
