Big Ben pipes may be the most undiscovered bargain in today's pipe world - three-digit quality at mid-two-digit prices . They are made in Holland by the Royal Dutch Pipe Factory.
The company dates back to 1870 when the great-grandfather of the current owner, Elbert Gubbels, started a tobacco shop.
The Big Ben Presidentials have become so popular in Europe that the Royal Dutch Pipe Factory is no longer shipping these models to the U.S. market.
I've gotten my hands on a few brand new, in-the-box, Big Ben Presidentials and they are outstanding pipes. This one is a Model 604, a large bent black, sandblasted apple. It comes with a new box and simulated leather pipe sleeve.
Big Bens are the best smokers I have found right out of the box. They are exceptionally light pipes for their size - a real comfortable handful. Big Ben Presidentials range from Dunhill large Group 3 to medium Group 4 in size.
The pipe is 5-5/8 inches long. The inside diameter of the tobacco chamber is 13-16ths of an inch. The bowl is 1-3/4 inches high.
It has a beautifully grained sandblasted finish and a nice push-style saddlebit.
