BIG GEORGE III 1768 ENGLISH STERLING SCALLOPED LADLE Presented is a museum quality English sterling silver ladle. This period piece of George III silver was made in 1768 by the famous partnership of Thomas and William Chawner. The ladle is fully hallmarked on the reverse. The hallmarks may be a little difficult to read but they can clearly be determined. The hallmarks are the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopards head crowned for the city of London, the date letter "N" corresponding to the year 1768 and the maker's mark of TC over WC for Thomas and William Chawner. The handle is done in a simple rounded form with a tipt back. The bowl is a beautiful scalloped form which is quite desirable. This piece could be used as either a soup ladle or a punch ladle. The ladle has a beautiful rich mellow patina. The silver has only the most minor of surface wear. The condition is outstanding. T are no breaks, no repairs, no dents, no monograms, no monogram removals and no problems of any kind. The length is 13 1/8 inches. The weight is 156 grams or 5.46 ounces or 5 troy ounces.
