Rare Shape Islamic Incense Burner early 1900's Brass Inlaid with Silver & Copper . Adorned with a Pierce-Work Dome, Large Arabic Calligraphic Cartouches ,Y-shaped Geometric patterns and detailed with Arabesques and Repetitive Patterns. 42 cm IN HEIGHT . A Must for Collectors Of Cairoware ,Mamluk Revival ,Persian & Islamic Art in General. The technique of silver and copper inlay was revived in the late 1700's and 1800's in the Islamic world.The process is difficult and requires several stages of mastery.Indeed after the item has been cast or hammered into shape it is then covered in the calligraphy and patterns. After this difficult stage the brass/bronze is carved & engraved by hand.Finally the silver and copper is hammered into the carved areas. This burner is reminiscent of the world famous Sultan Hassan Incense burner in the worlds largest and most definitive Islamic antiques collection at the Museum of Islamic Art in Cairo. This burner has been left UNCLEANED .I have a similar burner listed which I have cleaned .Please look at my other auction to see what this can turn out like !!!
