is a ONE OF A KIND collection of hand colored pictures of regimental flags and banners of the Imperial German Army at the turn of the last century. Each regiment is represented by an individual picture of a Standard laid out flat, please see the accompanying pictures. Each plate is about 8 inches wide by 12 inches tall. The pictures are based on line drawings which seem to have been printed for the purpose of coloring, but coloring by adults because the details in the drawings are too fine for a child to color. These were individually hand colored by a person with initials RS which are visible on each plate. They were commissioned by a retired U.S. Army Officer, who planned to use them as the basis for a rather large book on the subject. I believe the pictures were intended to be "camera-ready" for publication as part of that book. The artistry is excellent and hugely detailed. T are a grand total of 68 pictures. Sixty-five are flags, three are special recognition ribbons that attach to the top of the flag staff. What Regiments? I can not list them all These are mostly Grenadier, Garde Grenadier and Garde Jagers, but t are also telegraph battalions, Fusiliers, Pioneers, Field Artillery and one line Infantry!
