BIG UZBEK HANDMADE SILK EMBROIDERY WEDDING SUZANI Suzani, which means needlework in Persian, is the name given to large, embroidered textiles from Central Asia that were used as hangings or bed covers. Suzane are remarkable objects, reflecting in artistic form the traditional understanding of the universe, nature, happiness and love Surhandarya , Baysun SuzaniThe most common are suzane with rosettes on the central field. T are usually huge circles in the centre, metaphorically depicting the sun and moon. The number of such solar signs in suzane may vary from one to eight. The name for all planets is the same: oi, literally, the moon and these may be divided into big planets - katta oi or panja oi, and small ones: kichik-oi. In the centre of the planet, t is its nucleus in the form of a rosette or a flower branch, dasta-gul, surrounded by a ring consisting of colourful rosettes. Between 'planets' t are various floret and vegetative patterns such as the almond flower - bodom-gul, a tulip - lola-gul, sometimes with images of stylized birds: swallows - kaldirgoch and nightingales -bulbul sitting on branches. The entire composition represents a poetic metaphor: folk masters' view of jannat, paradise. It is not incidental that compositions often contain a stylized winged figure, which embroiderers call farishta, an angel. An oba strip runs along the edges of suzane symbolically delineating the borders of that fantastic world.The size of this suzani is 90 x 60 inches or 225 x 150 cm. Condition is good.
