European Iron and Brass Scale Antique or early vintage iron and brass scale. Heavy and solid construction. This is not a small piece and was most likely used in a mercantile. The look is a combination of rough and smooth, natural age patina and handsome by design. The scale makes for a very attractive interior accent. Please see pictures and details listed below. Origin: Romania, Hungary, Germany or surrounding regions. Circa: Estimated late 19th Century to early 20th century. Impressed Mark Iron Base: Mark part of Center Decoration: Center Front in order listed; Martin Lorincz-5 KGP-DEG. Impressed Mark Brass Pans: Small Pan; Pentru Bucatarie-No 47-3 KgP.-E.G. Co-Etch sign of a scale-6, in a circle with a small x mark above the 6. Large Pan; Etched 5 Pointed Star-52 inside a square-37 under the square-No. Roth 312-TM-OKQ.P. Condition: See pictures. Fine: very well or satisfactory: in a good, acceptable, or comfortable condition with understanding of age and type. Appears to be all original parts. Right side inside center of base is missing one metal clip and was wired into place. Armature can be adjusted for balance. No affect to display. Actual use for accurate weighing may (?) require adjustments. Brass pans have normal age related dents. >Base has been light wire brushed to remove excess rust, but still plenty of age patina left. Pans light cleaned with a cloth for brass. You have the options of leaving as is, spraying with a matte clear protective coating and/or sanding via triple ott steal wool and *linseed oil. This is the treatment we chose for the one we kept and it did deepen and add a richness to the metal. Brass pans can be further polished, pending personal preference. My partner (the actual stripper, no pun intended), has the most viable and safest suggestion for removing further rust if desired? The piece should be liquid stripped and then treated with the clear coat treatment of your choice. Possible auto body shop, mechanic shop with dip tanks for rust removal, other, furniture restoration and or self do with a liquid stripper for metal. *Size: L-18 1/4", W-7 1/2", H 7 1/2".
