VERY LARGE TIBETAN WHITE TARA GODDESS GOLD LEAF THANGKA PAINTING White Tara is the Tibetan Goddess of love and compassion. White Tara is also known as Sita Tara. The White Tara is said to be the mother of all Buddhas. She is white in color to represent purity and truth. Tara has two eyes, and one eye in the center of her forehead. She also has one eye on the palms of her hands and the soles of her feet. Tara sits in the lotus, or vajra position, and she is also worshipped for her beauty. Tara holds a lotus flower with three blooms in her left hand. These three blooms represent the past, the present, and the future. The White Tara helps practitioners overcome obstacles, especially the obstacles towards enlightenment. The White Tara is also associated with longevity. The White Tara mantra is the "Tara Mantra," and some words are added in to increase youth and longevity. Thankas are painted with all natural vegetable dyes extracted from Himalayan plants. The colors are stabilized with a tree sap to give them great longevity. Painting a Thangka requires great concentration, which is a meditation practice in itself. The artist also contemplate the images in the painting and their metaphysical meanings. The Thangka is a portable shrine that has been used since ancient times by Mahayana Buddhist Monks for various ceremonies and also as teaching aids. They are traditionally encased in silk brocade frames which allow them to roll up for the monks to travel with them. I always have a Thangka hanging in my home. You will be amazed at the impact of such a sacred object. The Tibetans say that these archetypes are common to all humanity and they stimulate your unconscious memory. This opens up a more meditative awareness inside of you. All Thangkas are enshrined in a silk brocade frame. Each silk frame also has a golden silk cover that comes down over the front. This is traditionally only raised up when the Thangka Painting is activated for teaching, rituals, or meditation. The outside measurements of the silk are 27 X 48 inches. The inside painting measure 18 X 28 inches. We know you see many Tibetan Thangka Paintings on Ebay, but quality is difficult to determine.
