Up for auction is a 1/18th scale die-cast custom built replica of the car raced by Bill Vukovich and Verne Houle at the Carrera Panamericana Mexican road race. The car was part of the big, and highly successful Lincoln factory team which did very well in the annual event. Vukovich, however, did not fair well in the race crashing out, with the car a total loss. Bill is much more remembered for his total domination at the Indy 500 leading 75% of the laps (485) from 1952 thru 1955 and winning back to back in 1953 and 1954. This die-cast Lincoln started out as a stock 1952 Capri, 2 door hardtop from the Road Signature Collection. The car was stripped, primered, repainted and clear coated in the livery of the Vukovich/Houle road race car. The extras built into this car are many, in the interior, the rear seat was removed and replaced with a firewall, safety harnesses were added as well as a fire extinguisher and proper period roll bar.The detailed engine compartment has the battery, upper radiator hose, plug wires and detail painting. The hub caps have been removed and replaced with stock wheel inserts. The headlights have been masking taped and the car also has the #108 Carrera Panamericana Mexico License plate.
