Please see lot title and picture for details. THE LOT COMPRISES A scarce Tongan emergency overprint stamp isued to meet the immediate requirements for local postal use. Since the 2008 (Coronation issue) there have been no new issues in Tonga, except for occasional overprints on older stamps. Because Tonga Post do not respond to overseas inquiries or orders, no one really knows what overprints exist or are available. There are no records available (if at all) of quantities of each of the different overprints produced. The only thing that collectors, catalogue producers and stamp dealers alike do know is that they are extremely difficult to obtain, especially in mint condition. I recall reading in Pacifica (the journal of the Pacific Islands Study Circle - which i would highly recommend to anyone interested in the stamps of the islands of the pacific ocean region) that the post offices in Tonga will only sell you stamps for letters, parcels etc that you take to the post office. They will not sell you any surplus stamps to put by or use later (or collect). N.B. THE PICTURE SHOWN IS A STOCK PICTURE. THE STAMP THE WINNING BIDDER RECEIVES WILL BE OF EQUAL QUALITY AND FROM THE SAME SHEET (ALTHOUGH IT WILL BE FROM A DIFFERENT POSITION IN THE SHEET TO THE ONE PICTURED). STAMPS WILL BE SENT TO THE WINNING BIDDER DIRECT FROM FIJI BY read more
