Family History and Poetry Manuscript. An album in stiff decorated boards size 23 by19 cm. 100 pages, about 60 of which have been used for a series of hand-written verses, prose pieces and family history. The two highlights are a 20-page poem on the Battle of Waterloo entitled The Soldier, which appears to be original, and a 10-page family history section at the end of the book in a different hand. The owner seems to have been a Thomas Wareham Freemantle, though the family history part relates to the Birdseye family, who seem to have originally come from Witney near Oxford. This takes the form of a (copied) correspondence from the early 1800s between a Mrs.E Pagnell of Sandown, Isle of Wight, and a Rufus Birdseye of Utica USA. The album also contains small sketches and chromolithographs. Front board detached, spine worn but otherwise contents in Good condition.
