This is a very fine example of the exceedingly rare, 8 day, Birge & Fuller, Bristol, CT, Candlestick Wagon Spring Shelf Clock. The mahogany case is 26" tall, 14" wide and 4" deep. The case is completely original with no veneer repairs. The finish is original with fine patina. The dial is original although the floral decoration in the corners was probably added some time long ago. The hands are original as is the pendulum bob. Both glasses have been professionally repainted on the original glass and are gorgeous. The label reads " Patent Accelerating Lever Spring, Eight Day Brass Clocks Made for sale wholesale & retail by Birge & Fuller, Bristol, Conn". The signed 8 day movement is powered by a leaf or wagon spring mounted to the bottom of the case. The power of the wagon spring is transmitted to a torque converter above the wagon spring by chains and from there to the movement by cables. The ingenious movement has been serviced and is in fine running condition.
