You are bidding on 8 day triple decker empire clock by Birge and Peck made in the 1840's or 1850's I will describe the clock for you below: The Case: Beautiful mahogany case that has a bit of a red hue to it. Not sure if this is made from Red Mahogany or not. The case is in overall excellent condition and t are no veneer chips to the case. The case mesures 32 1/2 inches high, 19 inches wide at the cornice, 16 inches wide at the main body, and the case is 3 1/2 inches deep, not measuring the depth of the columns. It is a very proportionate case. Please look closely at the photos attached. The wood on the columns and on the sleigh front base look a bit dry. If I was going to keep this, I would put on a light coat of Tung oil on case, but since each of us has our own proven method for refreshing wood, I am going to leave this alone and let the new owner give it a coat of their product of choice to moisten the wood. The Movement: 8 day brass movement and apprears it was recently cleaned. While the movement is running, I always sell "AS IS". Photo's of the movement can be seen below. The Lable: Lable is in great condition and probably 95% or better complete (small pieces missing at the bottom left of the paper). Also t is great picture of a large locomotive above the manufactures information. Makers are listed as Birge, Peck and Co. from Bristol, Conn. T are good photo's of the label below. The tablets: The middle tablet depicts New York Chrystal Palace. Probably 98% all t with only some very minor flaking on the dome of building. the bottom tablet shows Franklin College, Athens Ga (I believe this college still exist today as part of University of Ga. at Athens). Beautiful tablet that is all t Again, check out the photo's. Weights, Key, and Pendulum are included and appear correct to the clock. Please take a good look at the cornice on the top. While I cannot find ay evidence that the cornice is not correct/originial to the piece, t is something to call out: Looking at the clock, the middle piece and far right of the cornice apprear to be a bit of a different color and maybe grain from the rest of the case. My thinking is that someone along the way may have started to either refinish or stain the clock, and stopped after starting with these two small sections. Please note that this is confined to only these two sections of the cornice. This is someting that generally is not noticiable until called out. (For anyone who has ever bought and clock from me or bid on one of mine, you may recall that I ensure all flaws are called out and the best possible photo's of such are included in the listing). I ship USPS parcel, I pay for insurance on the piece and cover it for full sales price based on final sales price as part of my shipping fees and I also include delivery notification on the package. I pack with an insane amount of bubble wrap and padding and have not had any issues with getting these to their destination in good shape. The clock is being put up for auction without a reserve. I always welcome any questions or comments you may have and I will return all e mails in the evening hours. Enjoy!!!
