For sale is this hardback book in it's original box/slipcase "Birthday Book" designed by Her Royal Highness The Princess Beatrice and published by Shaw, Elder & Co, London in 1881. Brown cloth boards that are ornately blocked in gilt and dark brown with a pattern of tudor roses and butterflies. Decorated endpapers, all edges gilt. All 14 chromolithograph plates by J.G. Bach, Leipzig (two frontispieces & one at start of each month) are present as are and their tissue guards.Book is in excellent condition, light rubbing to leading edges and top & bottom of spine. the front hinge is slightly worn. Some foxing to front 12 pages and around 15 pages are written on, mainly poems. Inscription to title page. Small bookseller sticker to rear pastedown. Box is grubby and is rubbed to extremities. Cloth has worn through both top and bottom of the box spine front. Not split on the inside of box.2nd Class postage is FREE in the UK. Recorded Delivery is £1.10 extra.
