Black Aesthetic Transferware Butter Pat BUMBLE BEE ON WILD OATS Ashworth Bros. Staffordshire England 1882 This is a rare tiny butter tray or butter dish, originally part of a complete dinner service. The square dish with rounded corners measures about 2-3/4" in diameter, transfer printed in black. The piece is decorated with the image of a busy bumble bee sitting on a sheaf of wild oats -- a delightful example of Japanesque design and a fine tribute to the Victorian love of nature and the exotic. The pattern name is Victoria. The piece is unmarked except for a numeral "4". The pattern was registered in 1882 to Ashworth Bros., a pottery maker in the Staffordshire district of England. The dish is in very good condition, with a tiny flea bite nibble on the underside of the rim and no other chips, cracks, or repairs. This fabulous dish is one two tiny black butter pats we have for sale this week. Offered as is, it will make a stunning addition to any Aesthetic transferware or butter tray collection, or mix and match it with other naturalistic toile China or Art Deco wares. We have listed a playful variety of early transferware and pearlware, and are always happy to combine shipping of multiple purchases.
