You're bidding on two paper napkins from the late 40's-early 50's, relics from The Coon-Chicken Inn restaurants (t were 3 in the West.) Derogatory though the name, logos, serving dishes and so forth may be nowadays, the material is sought after by collectors. The CCI logo was patented by Graham in 1926. It depicted a smiling black man wearing a porter's cap. Entrances to the restaurants were surrounded by a giant size version of this face, and patrons entered through the smiling mouth. M. L. Graham opened the first CCI near Salt Lake City, Utah in 1924, armed with a "special recipe" acquired by Graham. This first restaurant was very successful and he went on to open two more; one in Seattle (1929, and the other in Portland, a year later. These restaurants thrived until about 1951. The two napkins were folded as you see, and some yellowing from age is apparent when spread flat. They were kept carefully in an envelope so that no damage to them has occurred over the years. Each napkin, opened fully, is 16 1/2" square. Folded size is 8 1/4". Thank you for looking; if you have questions, please email me.
