This Black Basalt teapot came from the estate of an antiques dealer friend of mine who collected early English porcelains along with early period furniture and art. I personally am not knowledgable about Black Basalt stoneware so I will leave it to the collectors and their knowledge. I acquired seven pieces from the estate about 15 yrs ago. They all have the same pattern of a large band of strawberries with leaves and smaller bands of grapes with leaves. From what I've researched Wedgewood made this Black Basalt starting in 1768 at Etruria in Staffordshire England. This teapot is made of a very fine grained stoneware with a Georgian shape (more than likely from the late 18th and early 19th century). It has beautiful detail and stands 10 1/2" long by 6" tall and 4 3/4" deep. It is in very good condition with one chip on upper part of spout. T is also a chip on the inside rim of the teapot ( see pics). It is unmarked on the bottom. From what I've read much of the early Wedgewood pieces were unmarked.
